ISLAMABAD: A fresh spell of heavy monsoon rains has battered parts of Pakistan, bringing destruction and raising the national death toll to 221, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

In the past 24 hours alone, five more people, including three children, have died, while 10 others were injured in incidents such as house collapses, flash floods, and lightning strikes.

Since the start of the monsoon season, 592 people have been injured and 804 houses have either been partially or completely damaged. Additionally, over 200 livestock have been lost due to the extreme weather conditions.

Punjab remains the worst-hit region, with 135 fatalities reported. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 40 deaths, followed by Sindh with 22, Balochistan with 16, while isolated deaths and injuries have also occurred in Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In Babusar Top, a cloudburst caused severe flooding and landslides, blocking roads at multiple locations. Rescue teams have transferred stranded tourists to safer areas in Chilas.

Authorities are continuing relief and rescue operations as the threat of more rain looms in the coming days.
