NEW YORK: The Consul General of Pakistan in New York, Mr. Aamer Ahmed Atozai, attended a solemn vigil and fundraising event organized in Jackson Heights for the victims of the devastating flash floods caused by a recent cloud burst in Buner District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan.
The event was jointly organized by the Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society (PALS) of the NYPD, the Khyber Society of Pakhtoons residing in the USA, and community leaders from across the surrounding boroughs. A large number of community members, NYPD officers, and civil society representatives participated in the gathering.
The program commenced with the observance of a one-minute silence, followed by the offering of fateha prayers for the eternal peace of the deceased and strength for the bereaved families.
In his remarks, Consul General Atozai highlighted the scale of destruction caused by the floods, which have severely affected human life, infrastructure, and crops in the region.
He extended gratitude to the Pakistani American community and PALS for their timely efforts in mobilizing support and resources for the flood-affected families. He also commended the dedication of the teams engaged in rescue and rehabilitation operations in Buner.
Community leaders and NYPD officers present at the occasion reaffirmed their solidarity with Pakistan and expressed their commitment to continue supporting relief and rehabilitation initiatives for the affected communities.
