Gang of human smugglers to Europe busted: FIA

KARACHI: The Immigration Circle of Federal Investigation Agency busted an international gang involved in human smuggling to Europe through the sea by nabbing four of its suspected members.

A spokesperson here said that the Immigration Cell conducted an operation at Jinnah International Airport Karachi and arrested members of the gang.

The FIA spokesman said that five passengers arriving in Karachi from Mauritania were being questioned These passengers are from Hafizabad, Gujranwala and Swat.

The spokesperson said that the members of the gang used to receive Rs2.5 to Rs3.5 million from each person for smuggling them to Europe by sea with the help of the other members of the gang abroad.

According to the preliminary investigation, the passengers reached Mauritania through Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Qatar from where the agents tried to send them to Europe illegally. However, the passengers refused to go to Europe illegally and returned to Pakistan.

The passengers have been transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Karachi to identify the agents.

Officials of the FIA say that strict scrutiny of illegal travel documents is underway, claiming indiscriminate actions were being taken against agents and their facilitators.
