ISLAMABAD: President of Google’s APAC region Scott Beaumont on Thursday said Google will further increase its investment footprint in Pakistan and support the government’s initiatives of youth’s skills training.
Mr Scott led a four-member delegation of Google that met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.
He said that in order to maximize the economic benefits of technology, large youth population and expanding economy were important factors for a value-driven tech giant like Google. By 2026, 0.5 million, Chromebooks will be manufactured in Pakistan which will revolutionize the IT Industry of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said Pakistan was on the threshold of a transformative leap in its digital economy. He said funds were allocated for training of youth, improvement of IT infrastructure, and improvement of the regulatory environment.
He said efforts are underway to completely digitize Pakistan’s economy. He emphasized collaboration with a tech giant like Google in these endeavours.
He appreciated Google for undertaking initiatives that have significantly improved the lives of thousands of Pakistanis over the last few years by driving the country’s digital economy forward.
