Hamas Approves Proposed Ceasefire Deal for Gaza Conflict

DOHA: Palestinian resistance group Hamas has approved a proposed ceasefire agreement aimed at ending hostilities in Gaza.

According to a foreign news agency, Hamas has agreed to the ceasefire proposal put forward by Egyptian and Qatari mediators.

The sources revealed that the proposed deal includes a 60-day ceasefire during which half of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza would be released. In return, Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails would also be freed.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera, citing Hamas sources, also confirmed that the group has accepted the ceasefire proposal presented by the mediators a day earlier.

However, it noted that, based on past experiences, the approval by Hamas does not guarantee an immediate end to the fighting.

In recent months, international pressure has mounted on both sides to reach a humanitarian ceasefire, especially after the rising civilian death toll and worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Aid agencies and the United Nations have repeatedly warned of famine, lack of medical supplies, and displacement of thousands due to continued airstrikes.

Despite multiple rounds of negotiations, previous ceasefire efforts have failed primarily due to disagreements over the terms of hostage releases, withdrawal of Israeli forces, and guarantees for a permanent truce. It now remains to be seen whether Israel will respond positively to this latest breakthrough or continue its military campaign.
