GAZA: Hamas and other Palestinian armed resistance groups have firmly rejected any form of foreign supervision in Gaza, emphasizing that control over the territory and its security will remain entirely in Palestinian hands.
In a joint statement, the groups praised the resilience and courage of the people of Gaza and expressed gratitude to the third parties that helped facilitate the recent ceasefire. At the same time, they emphasized that a comprehensive national conference would be convened to determine the next phase of the ceasefire and to clearly articulate the Palestinian position on key political and security issues.
Hamas politburo official Basem Naim reiterated that the group’s weapons would only be handed over to a fully sovereign Palestinian state. He stated that fighters could be integrated into a Palestinian national army but stressed that no one has the authority to deprive Palestinians of their right to resist.
Naim also affirmed that Hamas would not relinquish its arms until an independent and fully autonomous Palestinian state is established.
The statement further indicated that Hamas could step aside from governing roles if a Palestinian body assumes post-war administration of Gaza. Nonetheless, the movement will continue to operate on the ground and retain its weapons until the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian state.
The joint position underscores the groups’ determination to maintain Palestinian control over Gaza’s security and political affairs. It also signals potential challenges for international actors who have sought to implement external oversight or disarmament measures as part of the ceasefire process.
By emphasizing a national-led approach, Hamas and other resistance factions are asserting their authority over future governance and security arrangements in Gaza while preserving their right to resist.
The upcoming national conference is expected to clarify the Palestinian stance and outline the framework for the next phase of ceasefire implementation, ensuring that all decisions respect Palestinian sovereignty and self-determination.
