LONDON: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son, Hassan Nawaz, has been fined 5.2 million pounds after being declared a defaulter in the UK.

In the latest list of the British government, Hassan Nawaz has been declared a “tax defaulter.” Nawaz paid almost £9.4 million in unpaid taxes between April 5, 2015 and April 6, 2016.

The British tax authority imposed a fine of 5.2 million pounds on Nawaz, according to the details shared by the British government against Hasan Nawaz on its official website.

Legal experts however said that despite being bankrupt, there is a possibility of recovering the fine imposed on Hasan Nawaz under British laws. The penalty for tax evasion is not waived even if he is bankrupt.

Meanwhile, sources said that the case is 10 years old when Hassan Nawaz had collected all the taxes.

In this regard, legal sources close to Hassan Nawaz claim that the “data” published by the Revenue and Customs Department today were old. Hassan Nawaz himself declared bankruptcy in court, and the old story has been repeated once again.

When Hasan Nawaz had collected all the taxes, after about six years, HMRC started an inquiry on the taxes of that time which was not needed.

Legal sources said that after the passage of a certain time, Hasan Nawaz had taken a position that the tax department’s demand was no longer valid. He had adopted a principled position by showing bankruptcy in court, and the bankruptcy is to end on April 29, 2025.
