KARACHI: Heavy rain in Karachi on Tuesday put the city traffic out of gear and created mess on roads flooded with rainwater.
Since Tuesday morning, Karachi has been experiencing intermittent heavy rainfall. As a result, low-lying areas have been submerged, and rainwater has entered homes in multiple neighborhoods including Qaidiabad, Landhi, Malir, and others.
Major roads such as Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, and M.R. Kiyani Road are waterlogged, resembling large ponds, disrupting traffic and daily life.
City authorities and municipal services have been deployed across affected areas, but many residents have complained of delayed response and inadequate drainage infrastructure. Emergency teams are working to clear blocked drains and remove water from key roads and residential areas, but the scale of the rainfall has overwhelmed the city’s capacity.
The Met Office has forecast continued rain over the next 48 hours, prompting disaster management authorities to stay on high alert. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to avoid traveling through flooded areas.
According to the Met Office, the highest rainfall was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadeed with 170 mm. The old airport received 158.5 mm, Jinnah Terminal recorded 152.8 mm, Nazimabad received 149.6 mm, Surjani Town 145.2 mm, and North Karachi 143.8 mm of rainfall.
In Saadi Town, 140.2 mm of rain was recorded, while Keamari also received 140 mm. DHA saw 134 mm, Gulistan-e-Johar 133 mm, Korangi 132.2 mm, Shahrah-e-Faisal 128 mm, PAF Base Faisal 114 mm, Gulshan-e-Maymar 98 mm, and PAF Base Masroor recorded 87 mm. Orangi Town received 66.2 mm of rain, while Bahria Town recorded only 4.8 mm.
