MUZAFFARABAD: Heavy monsoon rains in Azad Kashmir from August 11 to 18 have claimed the lives of 19 people.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Kashmir, the fatalities include 8 men, 6 women, and 5 children. In addition, 16 people have been injured, comprising 10 men, 3 women, and 3 children.
The SDMA reported extensive damage caused by the rains and landslides. A total of 404 houses were damaged, including 87 that were completely destroyed. The floods also destroyed 27 shops, 13 micro-hydropower plants, 20 bridges, and 24 kilometers of roads, while 26 small hydroelectric stations were swept away by flash floods.
Additionally, 59 water supply projects and 40 irrigation channels were affected, and 12 vehicles were destroyed.
The disaster has significantly impacted both lives and infrastructure across the region, highlighting the severe effects of monsoon rains in Azad Kashmir.
