PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has directed Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to administer the oath of office to newly elected Chief Minister Sohail Afridi tomorrow.
The court announced its reserved verdict on a petition regarding the CM’s oath-taking and instructed the Governor to conduct the ceremony at 4 PM on Wednesday. It added that if the Governor fails to act, the Speaker of the provincial assembly will administer the oath the same day.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court asked about the Governor’s position. The Additional Attorney General told the court that the Governor was on an official trip and would return by 2 PM.
Advocate Aamir Javed, representing the Governor, requested the court to wait until the Governor arrived, assuring that he would complete the oath-taking. The court emphasized that no further delays could occur because elections have concluded and other parties have submitted nomination papers for the Chief Minister’s post.
