Special Court Judge says Imran’s trial to continue in jail

Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain took decision after jail authorities presented him a report at judicial complex in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD: It was expected that jailed former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan will be produced in an open court for the first time since his arrest on August 5, in the cipher case on Tuesday (today).

However, special court judge went against the verdict of Islamabad High Court and decided to continue the jail trial of Imran Khan.

The special court judge on his own announced that the trial would continue in the jail but it would be held in open court.

The judge announced the decision at the judicial complex after jail authorities could not produce Imran before him and submitted a report citing security concerns.

The hearing of the case was being conducted inside the Adiala jail but last week Islamabad High Court declared it illegal and ordered the special court judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain to start the process afresh in an open court.

The special court was expected to take up the case at the judicial complex in Islamabad today against Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi. However, Imran was not bought to the judicial complex citing security concerns.

Stringent security measures had been put in place on the route from the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi to the court in G-11 sector of Islamabad.
