KARACHI: It’s for the first time since its separation that Bangladesh has started buying top quality rice from Pakistan and the consignment has reached Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has received the last consignment of rice from Pakistan, which is the first purchase of rice under the government-to-government (G2G) agreement between the two countries.
The two countries have also developed bilateral trade ties in other sectors and these developments in their relations have unfolded in a quick succession soon after the ouster of the Awami League government by students protests last year.
Pakistan and Bangladesh have procured rice under a government agreement for the first time in 54 years since the formation of Bangladesh in 1971.
Official sources said Bangladesh has received 26,250 tonnes of rice procured from Pakistan under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement.
Bangladesh received the last consignment on Friday, the sources said, adding that the price of rice was $499 per tonne as per the agreement.
