The Indian government seems not in a mood to change its illegal stance and has once again announced that the Indus Waters Treaty would not be restored.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah told media in new Delhi said that India will never restore the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan and the water going to Pakistan will be diverted for India’s internal use.
He said that the water which is going to Pakistan will be taken to Rajasthan by building a canal. Pakistan will not get the water over which it has no right.
It may be recalled that on April 22, as many as 26 people were killed and around a dozen injured in a shooting incident at a tourist spot in Pahalgam area of occupied Kashmir. After the incident, India started blaming Pakistan without any evidence and unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
Pakistan maintains that the Indus Waters Treaty is an agreement between India and Pakistan brokered by international organizations and India cannot suspend it unilaterally as there is no such provision in the accord.
The 1960 Indus Waters Treaty was brokered by the World Bank and any changes to the treaty can only be made with the consent of both countries.
