Iran Vows ‘Decisive’ Response After US Airstrikes

TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vowed to retaliate following reported US airstrikes on Iranian military targets, warning that the attacks “will not go unanswered.”

In a statement carried by Iranian state media on Saturday, the IRGC said its naval and aerospace forces had thwarted the impact of the US strike on Sirik Island in southern Iran and minimized its effects.

“The aggression will certainly be answered,” the statement said, adding that Iran’s response would come “at a time and place of our choosing” and would be “swift and decisive.”

The IRGC also warned Washington against any further military action, saying that any “new reckless move” by the United States would be met with a strong response.

The statement came hours after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had carried out airstrikes targeting Iranian drone storage facilities, missile sites and coastal radar installations, saying the operation was in response to an alleged Iranian drone attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian authorities have not released details about casualties or damage from the reported strikes. The exchange marks a further escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington despite recent diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities in the region.
