UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Munir Akram has said that there is strong evidence that the banned TTP is becoming an umbrella outfit for terrorist organizations and the Taliban regime in Kabul is sponsoring terror attacks in Pakistan.

Addressing a UN Security Council session, Ambasaddor Akram said that the Afghan interim government had failed to deal with the terror threats to the region.

The outlawed TTP is the largest terrorist organization operating in Afghanistan and it attacks Pakistan from safe havens on the border areas inside Afghanistan.

He said that hundreds of lives had been lost as a result of the attacks by the banned TTP. While the BLA and Majeed Brigade are also trying to sabotage Pak-China economic cooperation, there are evidence that the Kabul authorities are sponsoring these attacks, Pakistan will take all necessary steps to eliminate terrorist threats, he resolved.

In addition, Ambassador Akram expressed serious surprise and disappointment at the lack of mention of terrorism in the UN Secretary General’s report.

He said that more than 20 terrorist organizations present in Afghanistan were a threat to the region and the world. Pakistan will start consultations to formulate an appropriate strategy in the United Nations.

He said a working group on counter-terrorism would be set up under the Doha process.

The envoy also informed the Security Council about the arrest of ISIS terrorist Mohammad Sharifullah from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border who was recently handed over to the US for trial in the killing case of American servicemen in Kabul in 2021.
