Kakar assures IMF of Pakistan’s reform efforts

Kakar thanks team for staff level agreement for release of next tranche of 700m dollars.

ISLAMABAD: After Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reached staff level agreement on released of the next tranche, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said the government was committed to the reform efforts for stabilizing the economy.

He was talking to IMF Mission Chief Nathan Porter and IMF Resident Representative for Pakistan Esther Perez Tuiz, who met him in Islamabad.

The IMF officials briefed Mr Kakar about the negotiations held at the technical levels with the team of the government under the First Review of the Standby Agreement.

Nathan Porter stated that Pakistan’s efforts had resulted in positive conclusion of the technical level talks.

Mr Kakar thanked the IMF team for its ongoing work with the Pakistan. 

Pakistan and the IMF have reached the staff-level agreement on the first review of their stabilization program under Pakistan’s Standby Arrangement.

According to a statement, the agreement is subject to approval of the IMF’s Executive Board and upon approval around 700 million US dollars will become available bringing total disbursements under the program to almost 1.9 billion US dollars.
