PESHAWAR: The special session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly held at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium has sparked debate on social media regarding the cost of organizing the event.

According to details, the one-day session, termed a “public assembly,” was arranged at the stadium with seating, sound systems, and recording facilities. A contractor involved in organizing the event said that around Rs1.5 million was spent on arrangements, including food and other expenses, under an agreement with the assembly secretariat.

The session was held in an open environment to allow public participation, with chairs arranged for treasury and opposition members, and separate seating designated for officials, media personnel, and guests.

A complete sound system was installed, with individual microphones provided for members, while parking arrangements were also made for lawmakers and attendees.

The move followed an announcement by the chief minister to hold an assembly session in an open venue. Subsequently, the speaker summoned the session at the stadium under relevant assembly rules.

The unusual venue and associated costs have since triggered discussion online about the necessity and expenditure of the event.
