NEW YORK: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has stated that a just resolution of the Kashmir issue is the only guarantee of lasting peace in South Asia.
Bilawal Bhutto made this statement while addressing a gathering of the Overseas Pakistani Society and Pakistani students studying in the United States at the Cornell Club in New York.
This public event was organized in New York City prior to the Pakistani delegation’s departure for Washington, by American Pakistani community members Ghulamullah Shehzad and Imran Agra.
The event was attended by members of Pakistan’s nine-member delegation, including Sherry Rehman, Hina Rabbani Khar, Jalil Abbas Jilani, Musadik Malik, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Faisal Sabzwari, Bushra Anjum Butt, and Tehmina Janjua. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, also addressed the gathering.
Bilawal Bhutto stated that talented Pakistani students studying abroad are the nation’s bright future and that they will bring pride to the country in every field.
He informed the Pakistani society and students about India’s open aggression, highlighting that India is using water as a weapon and has targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure during wartime. He also noted how the Pakistan Armed Forces responded decisively and dealt a crushing blow to India.
Bilawal further said that India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is a clear violation of international law, which cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
The former Foreign Minister and head of the Pakistani delegation emphasized that peace, patience, and dialogue are the only way forward, reiterating that the resolution of the Kashmir issue is essential for lasting peace in South Asia.
During the event, Sherry Rehman and other speakers stated that Pakistan desires peace, but not at the cost of dignity and honor.
Imran Agra, a Pakistani community leader in New York, said that the delegation’s meeting with the Pakistani community helped people understand the significance of the visit and expressed hope that American Pakistanis would become strong voices in support of this stance.
