LHC ruling against fuel price adjustment suspended

Supreme Court asks companies to approach NEPRA appellate tribunal.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday suspended a verdict of the Lahore High Court that had declared fuel price adjustment as illegal.

Taking up an appeal filed by 15 companies against the verdict of a single-member bench of the high court, the Supreme Court stated that the verdict was not in line with the law.

The apex court referred the matter to the NEPRA appellate tribunal with a direction to process it in 10 days.

The petitioners were directed to file the appeal in the tribunal in 15 days.

On February 7 this year, the LHC had ruled that imposition of fuel price adjustment in electricity bills was illegal.

Judge Ali Baqar Najafi announced the verdict, which was reserved on October 10, 2022, on a number of petitions filed by citizens.
