LAHORE: Smog has once again become a major issue in the capital of Punjab province and other cities that has badly affected routine life.
Because of a number of reasons including pollution and burning of agriculture waste in both the Indian and Pakistani provinces of Punjab, the issue of smog has crippled life in the winter and autumn in Punjab, especially Lahore.
Speaking at a function in Lahore, chief minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz saud that smog was a humanitarian issue, not a political one, being faced by the peoples of both the Indian and Pakistani Punjab provinces. She said that diplomatic efforts between the two countries were need of the hour to tackle the issue.
Maryam Nawaz said that she was thinking of writing a letter to her counterpart in the Indian province of Punjab to jointly work to overcome the issue of the smog.
The chief minister on the occasion congratulated the Hindu community on the festival of Diwali and said that the government was committed to ensure constitutional rights of the minority communities in the province.
She said that if anyone tried to violate fundamental rights of the minorities, she would take strong action.
The chief minister also announced Rs15,000 cash to 1,400 Hindu communities as a Diwali gift. She said the government was launching a minority card scheme by December 20, adding the minority fund would also be doubled.
