BRASILIA: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has arrived in Brazil to participate in the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30).
She is accompanied by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Minister for Education Rana Sikandar and Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafiq.
At the conference, Chief Minister Maryam will deliver a prominent speech focused on Punjab’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the concrete steps the province is taking to combat climate change. Her address will outline the vision for a “Clean Punjab,” emphasizing key initiatives such as climate resilience, the promotion of electric vehicles, forest conservation, and the protection of wildlife.
A central theme of her presentation will be Punjab’s efforts to transition to a more sustainable and eco-friendly future. This includes innovative projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and improving urban planning to better withstand the challenges posed by climate change.
The COP30 conference, running through November 21, brings together global leaders, environmental advocates, and experts to discuss urgent issues related to climate change and sustainable development. During her time in Brazil, Ms Sharif is set to meet with world leaders, international environmental organizations and climate specialists to exchange ideas and strengthen collaborative efforts in tackling the global climate crisis.
With global attention increasingly focused on climate solutions, the chief minister’s participation in COP30 reaffirms her commitment to advancing environmental sustainability in Punjab and contributing to the international effort to protect the planet for future generations.
