BOGOTA: A Colombian military aircraft carrying 125 people crashed in the country’s southern region, resulting in the deaths of at least 34 individuals, according to media reports.
The aircraft, identified as a C-130, was transporting 114 passengers along with 11 crew members at the time of the crash.
Majority of those on board were military personnel. Rescue teams managed to save 77 people from the wreckage, while search operations are still underway to locate others.
According to the Colombian Air Force commander, the aircraft had departed from the southern Amazon region near the border with Peru. The crash occurred approximately two miles away from a densely populated urban area, potentially preventing even greater casualties on the ground.
Emergency responders quickly reached the site and initiated rescue and recovery operations under challenging conditions. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, and a formal investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the disaster.
