Missing anchorperson Imran Riaz back home, say police

Riaz had gone missing after being arrested and released by Sialkot police on May 11.

SIALKOT: An anchorperson and Youtuber and active supporter of former prime minister Imran Khan, who went missing over four months back, reached his home in Sialkot this morning, according to media reports.

“Imran Riaz Khan was recovered Monday and reached his home safely,” said District Police Officer Sialkot Hassan Iqbal.

Riaz was arrrested and taken to the Sialkot jail on May 11, two days after PTI supporters went on a rampage over the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on May 9.

Riaz was taken into custody at Allama Iqbal International Airport while trying to leave for Dubai as his name was in the black list for his controversial Youtube content against state institutions.

However, the Youtuber and anchor mysteriously disappeared a day or two later with the jail authorities claiming that he had been released on personal surety.

His father and other moved Lahore High Court (LHC) about the disappearance of Riaz. The court was told on May 15 that the anchorperson was released from jail after taking an undertaking in writing.

After a number of hearings, the court gave the Punjab police chief was given a last chance on September 20 to recover Riaz by September 26.

Sialkot police stated on X today: “Journalist/anchor Mr Imran Riaz Khan has been safely recovered. He is now with his family.”
