ISLAMABAD: Authorities have stated that there is no evidence suggesting the illegally obtained donkey meat was supplied to local markets.
Instead, the bulk of the meat was reportedly intended for foreign nationals residing in Pakistan and for export abroad.
This revelation comes after a major raid in the Sangjani area of Tarnol, where police and the Islamabad Food Authority uncovered a secret slaughterhouse. The facility was allegedly run by foreign nationals in collaboration with a local accomplice.
During the operation, officials recovered the remains of 14 slaughtered donkeys and found 45 live donkeys on site. The premises also included a cold storage facility used to preserve the meat. Authorities revealed that a foreign butcher had been specially brought in to handle the slaughtering process.
Two foreign suspects were arrested at the scene. According to police sources, the operation was part of a coordinated effort to target illegal and unsafe meat processing.
The case gained attention when, just a day earlier, the Islamabad Food Authority had seized more than 25 maunds (around 937 kilograms) of donkey meat and over 50 donkeys during another raid in the same area.
A formal FIR has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to trace any local links or potential distribution networks. Authorities are particularly focused on determining whether any part of the meat could have entered the commercial supply chain.
