WASHINGTON: A wave of protests under the banner “No Kings” has swept across the United States, with millions of demonstrators rallying in opposition to President Donald Trump’s recent policies, which many have described as increasingly authoritarian.

According to international media reports, protests took place in 2,700 cities across the country, drawing more than seven million participants. In Chicago alone, an estimated 250,000 people took to the streets, marking one of the largest demonstrations in the city’s history.

The protests were triggered by growing outrage over immigration raids targeting undocumented migrants and the deployment of federal troops in several U.S. states, particularly those governed by Democrats.

Demonstrators voiced their anger by chanting slogans denouncing what they called Trump’s “dictatorial tendencies” and demanding an end to what they see as an unprecedented power grab by the administration.

Protesters carried signs and banners reading “No Kings,” “End the Raids,” and “Democracy, Not Dictatorship.” Many accused the Trump administration of undermining democratic institutions and steering the country toward authoritarian rule.

U.S. media outlets reported that the raids and troop deployments have sparked widespread backlash, with demonstrations expanding rapidly and gaining momentum.

Organizers and analysts predict that the protest movement is likely to intensify and broaden in the coming weeks as opposition to the administration’s policies grows.

President Trump, responding to the criticism, said he does not view himself as a “king,” and rejected claims that he is overstepping his authority. Meanwhile, Republican leaders have dismissed the nationwide demonstrations as “anti-American,” accusing organizers of politicizing national security issues.

The “No Kings” movement represents one of the most significant coordinated protest efforts in recent U.S. history, highlighting a deepening political divide and rising public resistance to Trump’s controversial decisions.
