MUSCAT: Oman has reaffirmed regulations governing employees’ working hours under its Labour Law to safeguard workers’ health, well-being and productivity.
Under Royal Decree No. 53/2023, Article 70 of the Labour Law stipulates that employers cannot require employees to work more than eight hours per day or 40 hours per week.
The law also requires employers to provide workers with at least one hour of rest and meal breaks during the working day. In addition, no employee may be required to work for more than six consecutive hours without a break.
For Muslim employees during the holy month of Ramadan, working hours are reduced to a maximum of six hours per day and 30 hours per week, allowing greater flexibility for fasting and religious observances.
The Labour Law further obliges employers to display a clearly visible work schedule at the workplace, specifying daily working hours and the weekly day of rest. The measure is intended to ensure employees are aware of their rights and working schedules while facilitating effective oversight by the relevant authorities.
