Ombudsman Removes Moonis Alvi as KE CEO Over Workplace Harassment

Karachi: The Sindh Provincial Ombudsman has ordered the removal of Moonis Alvi, the CEO of K-Electric, after he was found guilty of harassing a female employee.

The ruling was issued by Justice (r) Shahnawaz Tariq, the Provincial Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace.

In addition to being removed from his position, Moonis Alvi has been fined Rs 2.5 million.

Legal Consequences for Non-Compliance

The fine is required to be paid within 30 days.

If the fine is not paid within the stipulated time, the Ombudsman has ordered that Alvi’s assets, both movable and immovable, be frozen.

Additionally, his CNIC and passport may also be blocked.

This ruling was made under the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act.

Alvi Responds to the Decision

In response to the verdict, Moonis Alvi expressed his deep disappointment.

He referred to the decision as “deeply distressing” and disagreed with the findings.

“I respect the legal process, but I believe the findings do not accurately reflect the situation,” Alvi said.

He indicated that he would challenge the decision in court and review the ruling with his legal team.

Alvi also reiterated his commitment to pursuing justice through all lawful means.

Moonis Alvi’s Career at K-Electric

Alvi joined K-Electric in 2008 and served in several important positions within the company, including CFO, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury.

In 2018, he was appointed CEO of K-Electric.

Recently, on July 7, 2025, K-Electric’s board reappointed him as CEO, with the new term set to begin on July 30, 2025.

However, with the recent ruling, questions about his future as CEO have arisen.
