One Million Youth to be Trained in AI in Three Years: Govt
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced an ambitious plan to train one million people in Artificial Intelligence over the next three years, aiming to prepare the workforce for the rapidly evolving digital future.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, speaking at a ceremony, said that the AI revolution is transforming every sector of society. She highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure large-scale training in emerging technologies.
The minister emphasized the importance of developing AI systems tailored to Pakistan’s local needs and perspectives. She noted that for the first time, the government has approved a comprehensive national AI policy.
Addressing internet challenges, she explained that connectivity issues in the country are largely due to limited spectrum availability. However, steps such as the auction of additional spectrum and the rollout of 5G technology are expected to significantly improve internet speeds.
Shaza Fatima also revealed that discussions are underway with Google to expand its presence in Pakistan, while Chromebooks are now being locally manufactured. She added that AI training programs for children will be offered free of cost.
The government is also investing in submarine cable infrastructure to enhance connectivity.
According to the minister, increasing available spectrum from 270 MHz to 750 MHz marks a major leap toward improving digital services.
