LAHORE: Unannounced load shedding has intensified across the country as the average electricity shortfall has surged beyond 3,500 megawatts, leading to worsening power outages, especially in Punjab including Lahore.

According to power distribution sources, the situation in various distribution companies (DISCOs) has deteriorated significantly, with the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) facing a shortfall exceeding 1,000 megawatts.

Officials from the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) said the shortage has resulted in extended outages, particularly during late-night and early morning hours, severely affecting consumers.

Reports indicate that instead of the scheduled two-hour outages, many areas are now experiencing power cuts of up to six hours, with the situation expected to continue in the coming days.
