LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a fresh flood advisory as monsoon rains continue to increase water levels in several rivers across the province
The PDMA asked residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take precautionary measures.
According to the latest update, low-level flooding has been recorded in the Indus River at Tarbela and Chashma, where water flows have reached 336,000 cusecs and 302,000 cusecs, respectively.
In the Chenab River, authorities reported flooding at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad. Water flow has reached 195,000 cusecs at Marala, 262,000 cusecs at Khanki and 245,000 cusecs at Qadirabad.
Water levels in the Ravi, Sutlej and Jhelum rivers remain largely within normal limits, although the Ravi is carrying around 73,000 cusecs at Balloki.
The PDMA also reported medium-level flooding in the Basantar stream near Narowal, while low-level flooding has been observed in Bhimber Nala in Gujrat and Palkhu Nala in Wazirabad. Officials attributed the rise in water levels to recent rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
PDMA Director General Umar Abbas Mela said rainfall in the upper Chenab catchments has stopped and river flows have remained stable over the past 12 hours. However, he urged residents living along riverbanks to move to safer locations as a precaution.
The authority said flood relief camps have been fully equipped with essential facilities and medicines to assist any affected communities.
Citizens have been advised to avoid recreational activities near rivers, canals and streams, ensure the use of standard boats and life jackets during river crossings, and keep children away from floodwaters to prevent accidents.
