ISLAMABAD: As the second phase of a plan to deport illegal foreigners, especially Afghans, has begun, police in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have rounded up over 100 Afghans for their deportation.
The process of taking into custody Afghan Citizen Card holders and send them back home has started and operations were carried out in Islamabad and Rawalpindi which resulted in the arrest of iver 100 Citizen Card holders.
The deadline for voluntary repatriation of illegal Afghans ended on March 31.
The arrested Afghan Citizen Card holders will now be sent back to Afghanistan.
Afghan nationals holding POR cards have been allowed to stay in Pakistan till June 30.
In the federal capital, actions were taken against citizen card holders in Tirunelveli, Bhara Kahu, Ghori Town and Meharabadi. While 22 Afghans were taken into custody, 38 people were arrested from Rawalpindi’s military colony and adjoining areas, who were shifted to the old Haji camp and after registration from there they will be taken to the Landikotel camp in Khyber Pakthunkhwa for deportation to Afghanistan.
There is also a plan to transport Afghans lodged in various jails under the Foreign Act to Landikotel soon.
All Afghan citizen card holders will be repatriated after biometrics at the Landikotel camp, officials said.
