PESHAWAR: The repatriation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan has sped up significantly.

According to official figures, around 11,600 Afghan migrants were sent back to Afghanistan during the last 24 hours.

Authorities say the total number of Afghans who have now returned to their country has reached 1.696 million. Officials also confirmed that from now on, entry into Pakistan without a valid passport and visa will not be allowed

The return process has been underway for several weeks, with government departments working together at border points to manage the large number of families crossing back each day.

Transport, screening, and documentation checks have been strengthened to ensure that the movement takes place in an organised and secure manner.

Many returning families have spent years in Pakistan and are travelling with limited belongings. Humanitarian workers have raised concerns about the challenges these families may face once they reach Afghanistan, including lack of shelter, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

However, authorities maintain that the repatriation policy is necessary for proper border management and national security.
