The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India have agreed to adhere strictly to other agreements and reciprocal agreements, including a ceasefire on the Line of Control, and to resolve issues that could lead to peace and violence.
According to the Armed Forces Public Relations (ISPR), a hotline was set up between the DG Military Operations of Pakistan and India. The DGMOs of the two countries reviewed the situation in all sectors of the LoC.
According to ISPR, the DG Military Operations of Pakistan and India agreed on resolving all the basic issues, concerns for lasting peace in the interest of both the countries which would worsen the peace situation as well as lead to violence.
Pakistani and Indian military officials agreed to abide by bilateral agreements, treaties and a ceasefire agreement on the Line of Control (LoC) which came into force on the night between 24 and 25 February 2021 (last night). The DGMOs reiterated their commitment to use the existing method of hotline contact and bird flag meeting procedures to deal with any untoward situation and remove misunderstandings.
When contacted by the DGMOs, Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the contact would result in a meaningful implementation of the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding. He said that this contact has been going on in Pakistan and India since 1987. An agreement was reached between the two countries in 2003 for a ceasefire on the Line of Control.
The DG ISPR said that violations of the ceasefire agreement on the LOC had intensified since 2014, with India violating the ceasefire agreement more than 13,500 times since 2003, of which 310 civilians were killed and about 1,600 were injured.
According to Major General Babar Iftikhar, 97 per cent of the ceasefire violations took place between 2014 and 2021, with Indian provocations causing the most casualties in 2018, while 2019 saw the highest number of ceasefire violations.
