Pakistan, China to launch joint projects for heritage restoration

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have agreed to undertake joint projects focused on the restoration, preservation, and digital documentation of historical landmarks in both countries.

The decision was reached during high-level talks between Pakistan’s Minister for Culture, Tourism and Heritage Huzaifa Rehman, and China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Gao Zheng held in Beijing on Sunday.

Officials said the initiative aims to safeguard shared cultural heritage while promoting academic collaboration and technological exchange in heritage conservation.

The projects are expected to enhance tourism potential and deepen cultural ties between the two nations.Under the proposed collaboration, teams from both nations will work together on the conservation of ancient sites, the exchange of restoration expertise, and the use of advanced technologies for digital archiving of cultural assets.

The initiative is expected to facilitate knowledge-sharing between heritage professionals, improve preservation standards, and promote mutual understanding of each country’s rich historical legacy.

The two sides also highlighted the importance of cultural heritage in fostering people-to-people connections and boosting tourism potential.

By jointly restoring and showcasing important historical sites, Pakistan and China aim to attract more tourists, generate economic opportunities, and strengthen cultural ties rooted in centuries of interaction along routes such as the ancient Silk Road.

Officials added that the collaboration will also serve as a platform for academic partnerships, research projects, and training programs in heritage management and conservation science.

Both governments have expressed confidence that the initiative will contribute to sustainable tourism development while safeguarding invaluable cultural resources for future generations.
