NEW YORK: A combined team from the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York and the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations took part in friendly cricket matches organized by the New York City Police Department.
The Pakistan team competed against a joint NYPD–Toronto Police side as well as the New York Cricket Academy, in an atmosphere defined by camaraderie, sportsmanship, and strong community engagement.
The event was supported by Millat Sports and the Pak-America Cricket Team, led by Sohail Anjum. Former Pakistan international cricketer Adnan Akmal participated as a guest player and emerged as the top scorer in the matches.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, and Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai also took part in the games, engaging with participants and members of the local community.
They praised the NYPD for organizing the initiative and emphasized the role of sports in promoting friendship, mutual understanding, and people-to-people connections.
The diplomats noted that such activities serve as a powerful platform for sports diplomacy, bringing together diverse communities through teamwork and healthy competition.
Participants widely appreciated the event for fostering goodwill and strengthening ties among diplomats, law enforcement officials, and community members.
