ISLAMABAD: The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Pakistan as the most smog-affected country in the world in 2025.
The report revealed that the concentration of hazardous fine particles (PM2.5) in Pakistan was nearly 13 times higher than the recommended safe levels.
Out of 143 countries and regions, 130 failed to comply with WHO guidelines to control air pollution. In the list of the most polluted countries, Pakistan ranked first, followed by Bangladesh in second place and Tajikistan in third.
The WHO also noted that most of the 25 most polluted cities in the world are located in India, Pakistan, and China. In the previous report, the city of Lohe in India was listed as the world’s most polluted city.
Experts warn that rising air pollution poses serious health risks and urgent measures are required to prevent long-term consequences. Citizens are advised to avoid outdoor activities on highly polluted days and to use face masks for protection.
