ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will continue to uphold its principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute until the issue is resolved in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

At the weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan dismissed speculation about a shift in Pakistan’s Kashmir policy. He termed interpretations of the Deputy Prime Minister’s remarks as baseless and misleading, reiterating that the policy remains consistent and unchanged.

On Pakistan-Iran ties, the spokesperson described both as close neighbors and friends, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and willingness to support diplomatic solutions to tensions.

Regarding Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, he firmly rejected claims of any policy change. He said the Deputy Prime Minister’s remarks in Washington were being misinterpreted.

He reaffirmed that the government, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has consistently worked for Dr. Siddiqui’s release through diplomatic and legal channels, including clemency efforts, consular support, and legal assistance since her 2010 conviction.

He also condemned attempts on social media to misrepresent the government’s efforts, stressing that Pakistan remains committed to securing her release in line with international law and bilateral cooperation.
