WASHINGTON: Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema discussed Pakistan’s development ties with the World Bank during his official visit to the United States, finalizing a major strategic framework worth $40 billion.
Mr Cheema met with World Bank Managing Director Anna Bjerde and South Asia Vice President Martin Raiser, where they launched the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) 2026–35 – a 10-year plan aimed at driving Pakistan’s socioeconomic transformation.
He thanked the World Bank for its historic support, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 floods. “As Pakistan’s largest development partner, the World Bank has played a critical role in improving lives and supporting our economy,” Mr Cheema said.
With the CPF in motion, he said the government will now focus on a detailed implementation plan in close collaboration with the World Bank.
