Pakistani delegation meets Afia Siddiqui in US jail

WASHINGTON: A delegation from Pakistan sent to the United States of America has met Dr Afia Siddiqui in a jail in the US, a member of the delegation told media here.

Senator Dr Bushra Anjum said that the delegation was visiting the United States on the direction of prime minister Shahbaz Sharif. She said that the delegation held talks with US Congress members and senior officials of the US state department and received positive response regarding release of the Pakistani doctor languishing in the US jail after being convicted of helping terrorists.

She expressed they hope that the US government would announce its decision about release of Dr Siddiqui by 20th of next month. She said that the case of Dr Siddiqui was one of human rights issues.

It may be mentioned here that a sister of Dr Afia Siddiqui has also filed a petition in Islamabad High Court seeking directions to the government to take up Dr Afia Siddiqui’s case with the US government.
