ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis pin hopes on the United States of America to play its role in ending the Gaza war in which thousands of innocent people have been killed since Oct last year.

This was stated by Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal while speaking as chief guest at a function held at the US embassy in connection with the 248th anniversary of the US Independence. He said that the people of Pakistan also expect the US to play its role in ensuring the right to self-determination for the people of occupied Kashmir.

The minister said that Pakistan and US have deep-rooted and historical relations and the ties were as old as Pakistan itself was. He said that the recent T20 Wold Cup tournament held in the US brought the peoples of the two countries closer.  He said that geographically Pakistan is the most important country in the region and it has played its role in international politics.

Speaking on the occasion, US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome said one of the characteristics of the moment we are passing through is global re-ordering, where entities and organizations that had not reached their potential are emerging to stake their rightful claim, and demand their place on the world stage. And I think you guessed, I am talking about cricket. I won’t dwell on what I saw in Dallas, but I am a true convert to the excitement of the T20 game!”
