RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, jointly inaugurated the Sky47 Karakorum-01 Data Centre in Rawalpindi.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the state-of-the-art facility as a landmark achievement that would play a vital role in the country’s digital transformation. He said the successful completion of the project reflected Pakistan’s ability to accomplish ambitious national goals through determination, unity, and collective effort.
The Prime Minister commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with all public and private stakeholders involved in the initiative, for their vision and dedication in bringing the project to fruition. He also acknowledged the contributions of ZTE, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, and other partners who supported the development of the facility.
Highlighting the importance of digital infrastructure, Shehbaz Sharif said projects like the Sky47 Karakorum-01 Data Centre represent the future of Pakistan and urged all state institutions to integrate their systems with the new facility to maximize its potential. He noted that the centre has an initial capacity of 8.5 megawatts and announced plans to establish similar data centres in Karachi and Lahore to further expand the country’s digital ecosystem.
The Prime Minister also referred to Marka-e-Haq as a defining moment in Pakistan’s history, saying it demonstrated that national resolve and determination could overcome any challenge.
Sky47 is Pakistan’s largest carrier-neutral and AI-ready digital infrastructure platform, purpose-built to international standards. Featuring sovereign cloud architecture and enterprise-grade security, the facility is designed to support high-performance artificial intelligence workloads while ensuring critical national data remains securely hosted within Pakistan.
