ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the key role of the Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom in strengthening ties between the two countries.
He made the remarks during a ceremony in Islamabad celebrating King Charles III’s 77th birthday.
He noted that nearly two million British citizens of Pakistani heritage contribute across various sectors in the UK, helping maintain strong Pakistan-UK relations. He also praised King Charles III for his public service, calling him an inspiration to millions.
The Prime Minister thanked the UK government and British High Commissioner Jane Marriott for condolences following recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, stressing that terrorism remains a major global threat. He affirmed that Pakistan stands united with its armed forces to confront it.
Recalling his attendance at the King’s coronation two years ago and a recent conversation in September, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the Royal Family’s interest in promoting Pakistan-UK ties.
He also thanked the High Commissioner for resuming PIA flights to Manchester and invited King Charles III and the Queen to visit Pakistan.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott reiterated the UK’s support, highlighted fifteen British MPs of Pakistani origin, and noted that trade between the two countries has reached 5.5 billion pounds annually.
