ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged Chinese agribusiness company FAMSUN to integrate skilled Pakistani workers into its planned investment projects, stressing the importance of workforce development alongside technological cooperation.
The remarks came during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House with a delegation led by FAMSUN Chief Executive Officer Jack Chen, where the two sides discussed the company’s plans to modernize Pakistan’s grain storage infrastructure.
Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister said Pakistan and China enjoy an exemplary friendship that continues to strengthen through expanding economic cooperation and business-to-business partnerships.
He said the proposed project to upgrade grain storage facilities into state-of-the-art centres would introduce modern agricultural technology, improve food security and boost commercial activity.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistani workers should receive training and become an integral part of the company’s projects, enabling the local workforce to benefit from technology transfer and skills development.
Jack Chen thanked the prime minister and the Government of Pakistan for their hospitality and recalled their previous meeting during Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, which paved the way for discussions on practical food security initiatives in Pakistan.
The FAMSUN chief said the company is interested in developing modern grain storage facilities, transferring advanced technology and providing technical training in Pakistan.
He also informed the meeting that the company plans to establish a demonstration centre for Green Silos, with existing storage facilities to be upgraded into modern, environmentally friendly grain storage systems.
Officials were informed that a memorandum of understanding has already been signed between FAMSUN and the Green Pakistan Initiative. The company, one of China’s leading firms in agriculture, animal feed and food processing, is expected to contribute to the modernization of Pakistan’s agricultural infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar and senior government officials.
