PPP Leads in Gilgit-Baltistan Elections, Independents Second

GILGIT: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the leading party in the ongoing vote count for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections, according to preliminary and unofficial results.

Polling was held across the region on Sunday, with a strong voter turnout observed at multiple polling stations. Voting continued uninterrupted until 5:00 PM, after which the counting process began.

So far, results from 18 out of 24 constituencies indicate that PPP has secured 9 seats, placing it firmly in the lead.

Independent candidates have taken second position with 5 seats, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stands third with 3 seats. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has secured 1 seat.

Early results show PPP candidates winning key constituencies including GBA-1, GBA-4, GBA-5, GBA-7, GBA-9, GBA-10, GBA-11, GBA-12, and GBA-19. Independent candidates have claimed victories in constituencies such as GBA-3, GBA-6, GBA-21, GBA-23, and GBA-24.

In GBA-1 Gilgit, PPP’s Amjad Hussain secured victory with 10,594 votes, defeating PML-N’s Muhammad Shafiq-ud-Din. Meanwhile, in GBA-3, independent candidate Syed Sohail Abbas won with 7,877 votes.

Results from several constituencies are still pending, and the final outcome will be determined once all votes are counted. The elections are seen as crucial in shaping the political landscape of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Officials have stated that the overall polling process remained peaceful, with voters actively participating in the democratic process.
