PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders from Peshawar City District announced that they will launch a protest against Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, accusing him of misusing Governor House for personal interests and undermining party activities in the province.
Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club, PPP leaders Zulfiqar Afghani and Zulfiqar Awan said the party’s provincial leadership has been hijacked and limited to Governor House, leaving ordinary workers neglected.
They highlighted that no official events were held to mark the death anniversary of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, the Mother of Democracy, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the only remembrance took place at the press club.
The leaders alleged that party workers in the province are being sidelined and prevented from meeting PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while a few individuals at the governor’s residence control the party’s affairs.
They warned that if the provincial leadership does not take corrective measures within 10 days, the district would hold a press conference in Islamabad followed by a protest outside Zardari House.
Zulfiqar Afghani and Zulfiqar Awan also criticized the provincial leadership for inaction, saying that PPP’s presence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is under severe threat as members are leaving the party.
They emphasized that the sacrifices of the party’s workers during the era of martial law and for democracy must be respected, and called on central leadership to ensure the party is strengthened and organized in the province.
The leaders concluded by vowing to continue defending PPP and democratic values until their last breath.
