RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers clashed during a sit-in on Adiala Road on Tuesday with one unarmed supporter reportedly subjected to a severe assault.
The protest was staged by the sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan and party supporters gathered outside Adiala Jail, demanding permission to meet the jailed former prime minister.
According to reports, the violence erupted when one group of PTI workers attempted to approach Aleema Khan, while another group blocked their way, triggering a heated confrontation. During the scuffle, several workers allegedly tore each other’s clothes, and one supporter was beaten by a group of activists.
Women participating in the protest intervened to separate the rival groups, temporarily calming the situation. However, the confrontation resumed shortly afterward, with two workers engaging in another physical fight. One participant reportedly punched the other repeatedly, breaking his glasses, while the altercation again resulted in torn clothing.
Police sources said two PTI workers were later taken into custody from the protest site near the Adiala Jail factory checkpoint.
The detainees were allegedly found consuming narcotics in public and were shifted to the Adiala police post for further legal action.
