WASHINGTON: An agent of the Indian intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) has been indicted in the attempted murder case of Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in America.
According to the US Justice Department, Vikash Yadev, an agent of RAW, was involved in hatching the murder plot of the Sikh separatist leader last year.
After the conviction of the suspect, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun stated that the indictment of the RAW official was a proof that the Modi regime of India challenged the independence of the USA and was involved in trying to eliminate leaders of Khalistan Movement living in America.
The Sikh separatist leader said that the Modi regime would face the consequences of its crimes. He said that the Indian regime had continued its conspiracies to eliminate Sikh leaders living in Canada and USA but the Khalistan Movement would continue till a separate state was carved out of India for Sikhs.
According to US media reports, another suspect identified as Nikhal Gupta was arrested in a European country on the request of the US last year in the same case. He was produced in a US court after an inquiry confirmed that he had been assigned the task by the Indian government to murder four Sikh separatist leaders living in America.
Earlier last year, relations between India and Canada nosedived after the canadian prime minister accused New Delhi of orchestrating the killing of a Sikh leader in Canada in June. Canada recently expelled six Indian top diplomats for their alleged role in the killing of a Sikh leader in Canada.
Khalistan Movement leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed by unknown people in Canada.
