ISTANBUL: Social activist Saad Edhi along with 430 volunteers of the Global Sumud Flotilla have been released after being detained by Israeli forces.
Reports said that preparations were underway to transfer the released volunteers, including Saad Edhi, to Istanbul after their release. The Adalah organization, which represents Palestinians in the United States, stated that the aid workers are being deported from Israel.
The volunteers were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international humanitarian mission carrying aid for Gaza, when they were detained by Israeli forces during the operation.
Saad Edhi is part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international aid initiative aimed at delivering humanitarian assistance to besieged Palestinians in Gaza.
According to reports, the mission departed on May 14, 2026, from Marmaris in Türkiye, carrying more than 500 humanitarian workers from around the world, including Saad Edhi.
Just moments before being detained, Saad Edhi released an emergency video message in which he showed Israeli forces intercepting and taking action against the aid mission.
The Edhi Foundation and international volunteers had described the effort as a peaceful attempt to deliver humanitarian supplies to Palestinians. However, the mission was intercepted and the aid workers were detained by Israeli forces.
