Resolution of Kashmir, Palestine issues must for durable world peace

Pakistan says non-violation of human rights should be ensured in fight against terrorism.

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram has said protection and non-violation of human rights must be ensured in the fight against terrorism anywhere in the world.

At the same time, he underscored the importance of resolving chronic and key international issues, notably the disputes of Kashmir and Palestine by giving the people of these areas the right to self-determination.

This, the ambassador stressed, will help wipe out terrorism that has spread across the world for good.

Ambassador Akram was Addressing  the General Assembly Legal (sixth) Committee session on ‘Measures to eliminate International Terrorism’.

He said new and emerging threats, including violent acts by white supremacist, far right extreme right wing, violent nationalist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, anti-Muslim and Hindutva groups and ideologies in various parts of the world were a threat to world peace.

He said the new convention should distinguish between acts of terrorism and a legitimate struggle of peoples under foreign and colonial occupation to the right to self-determination and national liberation.
