UNITED NATIONS: Russia and China have vetoed a resolution in the UN Security Council calling for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, according to Arab media reports.
The vote took place during a Security Council session convened to consider a proposal submitted by Bahrain aimed at ensuring the reopening of the strategic waterway.
The resolution received 11 votes in favor; however, Russia and China exercised their veto power to block its adoption. Two member states abstained from voting.
According to media reports, had the resolution been passed, it would have allowed member states to take necessary measures to secure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
